A-G Requirements UC/CSU
To be considered for admission to a UC campus, the fifteen year-long high school courses must be completed with a grade of “C” or better, and students must complete at least eleven of the fifteen courses prior to their senior year.The a-g requirements noted below are submitted by the Regents of the University of California. Where C.S.U. requirements are different than U.C., it is indicated in italics .

a. Two years of history-social science, which are to include one year of world history, culture and geography, and one year of US history or one half year of US history and one half year of civics or American government. 1 year of US History or 1 semester US History and 1 semester American Government AND 1 year of history/social science from either the "a" or "g"" subject area.
b. Four years of college-preparatory English that include frequent writing, from brainstorming to final paper, as well as reading of classic and modern literature. No more than one year of ESL-type courses can be used to meet this requirement.
c. Three years of college-preparatory mathematics that include the topics covered in elementary and advanced algebra and two- and three-dimensional geometry. Approved integrated math courses may be used to fulfill part or all of this requirement, as may math courses taken in the seventh and eighth grades if the high school accepts them as equivalent to its own courses. (4 years recommended)
d. Two years of laboratory science providing fundamental knowledge in two of these three foundational subjects: biology, chemistry and physics. (3 years recommended) At least 1 year of physical science and 1 year of biological science, one from the "d" subject area and the other for the "d" or "g" area.
e. Two years of the same language other than English. Courses should emphasize speaking and understanding, and include instruction in grammar, vocabulary, reading, composition and culture. American Sign Language and classical languages, such as Latin and Greek, are acceptable. Courses taken in the seventh and eighth grades may be used to fulfill part or all of these requirements if the high school accepts them as equivalent to its own courses. (3 years recommended)
f. One year-long course of visual or performing arts chosen from the following: dance, drama/theater, music or visual art.
g. One year (two semesters), in addition to those required in “a-f” above, chosen from the following areas: visual and performing arts (non-introductory-level courses), history, social science, English, advanced mathematics, laboratory science and language other than English (a
third year in the language used for the “e” requirement or two years of another language).
For a high school course to be accepted by the UC system as an A-G course, the course must contain a specific content and rigor.
A-G core subject areas can also be met by taking specific courses at the local community college. For college transfer information, please contact the college in question.
Each year, the Sonoma County SELPA is required to develop an Annual Budget and Annual
Service Plan for submission to the CDE. A Public Hearing by the Superintendents' Council
is required prior adoption. Notice of this Public Hearing must be posted in each LEA and each school site immediately
upon receipt to ensure it is posted at least fifteen (15) days prior to the Hearing (Education
Code 56205 (b) (2)). The Public Hearing is scheduled for Monday, June 7, 2021 beginning at 8:00 a.m.
